She was just 13 when she tragically lost her arm after being attacked by a shark.
But last night, eight years on from the harrowing incident, Bethany Hamilton bravely stepped out to the premiere of the movie which she inspired - looking all grown up.
The 21-year-old showed off her statuesque figure in a short, sparkly gold dress.

And she positively dwarfed 17-year-old actress AnnaSophia Robb, who plays her in the movie Soul Surfer at the Hollywood premiere last night.
Bethany lost her arm in the 2003 shark attack but courageously got back on her board and became a champion again just months later.
Other stars in the movie include Helen Hunt, Dennis Quaid and American Idol winner Carrie Underwood.
Hilary Duff, 23, who doesn't star in the film, also came along, showing off her newly-dyed blonde hair and looked fantastic in a short striped skirt teamed with a black top.
Carrie plays Sarah Hill, the church leader that inspires Bethany to get back into the water.
Bethany's parents, played by Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid, struggle with encouraging their daughter in a risky sport but are then faced with the threat of her career being cut short after the tragedy.
The film has been described as Blue Crush meeting 127 Hours but it is an inspirational tale of triumph over adversity.
The movie has already courted controversy when it was reported that the words Holy Bible were digitally removed from the cover of a Bible in a scene where Bethany's father Tom is reading scripture to his daughter.
The devout Christian family were relieved when they saw the final cut of the film to see it has been put back in.
'I could see the words bright and clear. I looked at my wife and whispered, "Thank you God, they put it back"', Tom Hamilton told The Hollywood Reporter.
It had apparently been taken out to soften the Christian element of the film so not to alienate non-Christian audiences.
Soul Surfer opens in cinemas on April 8
